As a skilled costing professional, Peter Sheavyn is well-regarded in the industry, and is experienced in analysing matters for maximum cost recovery, preparing schedules and assisting in the preparation of detailed bills of costs.
Peter also possesses in-depth knowledge of third-party insurance claims, with a particular emphasis on the law of procedure, costs and assessment of damages and is able to provide advice with respect to quantum of accounts and the taxation of bills of costs.
Before joining Talbot Olivier in 1980, he was responsible for costing matters at Clayton Utz. His career highlights include, acting in a high profile matter involving a number of actions, which were unsuccessful- Peter’s input resulted in the original bills being significantly reduced from almost $2 million to $600,000, preparing a detailed and complex bill of costs for an agricultural entity in a Federal Court intellectual property matter; successfully obtaining a reduction in the legal costs awarded to the plaintiffs in a motor vehicle injury and damages insurance claim. The plaintiffs were claiming costs for WA and Japanese solicitors. Peter was successful in arguing that the costs would not extend to the Japanese solicitors; and successfully acting for a local government authority in defending an insurance claim made against them by an individual.
Peter is a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and has lectured at Costs School and presented seminars for the Insurance Commission of Western Australia.
