A contaminated site can have significant economic and planning implications on any property development and it is vital that lawyers dealing with property transactions be able to plan for and properly advise their clients of the impact and requirements of the Contaminated Sites Act 2003 (WA).

John has held positions with numerous bodies including the Law Society of Western Australia where he was President in 1997, and the Legal Practice Board. He is a Director at Warren Syminton Ralph Pty Ltd.

John Syminton was named one of Western Australia’s leading property lawyers by Doyle’s Guide to the Australia Legal Profession, and has a built a reputation for dealing with substantial, complex and unique legal transactions. John gained his degrees of BA and LLB from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He migrated to Australia in 1976 achieving a Master of Laws degree from the University of Western Australia and also became a partner at Freehills. Now with over 30 years’ experience in commercial and property law, he has acted for many major public listed companies, advising them in the areas of large scale property joint ventures, major leasing – including acting on Leases to the State Government- redevelopment of major shopping centres, including the negotiation and finalisation of a State Agreement, and major sales and acquisition of property. Commercial transactions including the acquisition of substantial equipment John has been a strong advocate and contributor to the legal profession in Western Australia. John drafted the 2002 Plain Language version of the General Conditions for the Sale of Land and has prepared subsequent amendments to the General Conditions. John has held positions with numerous bodies including the Law Society of Western Australia where he was President in 1997, and the Legal Practice Board. He currently provides lectures and tutorials for final year law students at UWA in Commercial Practice.
