Kalgoorlie-born Eric Michael Heenan QC was educated at Sacred Heart College and Christian Brothers in Highgate, and Aquinas College. He graduated with honours from the University of Western Australia Law School in 1966. The Hon Eric Heenan QC was admitted in 1969 after serving as an articled clerk with his father's firm, E.M. Heenan and Co, of which he later became a partner. He left the firm in 1983 to practise solely as a barrister and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in December 1985. The Hon Eric Heenan QC has served as President of the WA Bar Association (1990-92); Vice-President of the Australian Bar Association (1992); the Barristers' Board (now the Legal Practice Board of WA) (1985-2002); and as a Commissioner of the WA Supreme Court in 1990 and 1994. He was appointed to the bench of the Supreme Court in April 2002 where he served more than 13 years as a member of the court before retiring in June 2015. The Hon Eric Heenan QC has also been a member of the Medical Board of WA (1988-2002); the Advisory Committee to the Minister for Health to review the Medical Act (1998-2000); the Art Gallery of WA board (1987-1991), of which he was Vice-Chairman from 1989 to 1991; and Deputy Chairman of the inaugural Aquinas College board (1988-94).
